THE BOY CHILD
There is a question ringing in my heart and I want us to discuss this together. Here it is:
WHO IS THE BOY CHILD?
I think biology calls him the one with the outstanding Y gene chromosome,
Society calls him the brave one and away from errors,
Religion says he is the protector, provider, and defender of the girl child,
Family calls him the head above everything and everyone, and so even when he is the tenth child in the presence of nine girls, he is still the head.
With so much expected of this single creature, I start to wonder does it mean they are not expected to have emotions or better still not expected to be hurt, abused, betrayed, or bittered?
Every day we keep seeing new NGO’S advocating for the girl child. “hey sweetie if you are abused just let me know and I will handle it”, “who is that animal that did this?”, “I promise you he won’t go unpunished”, “men are so arrogant and selfish and always wanting what’s best for them so we need to be strong for our selves’’.
But wait o, no be blood wey dey the ladies vein they run the guys veins too? Abi am I missing something? The last time I checked, guys still had the same biological make up with the ladies. The guys have emotions and can be hurt, can be abused and betrayed.
So I want us to have a re think about the guys. How about the next time you see a guy lusting after his sister, you call him to order in love, invite him for counseling and we create more avenues where these guys can as well be healed.
Sometimes even the guys we see today robbing, they too at one point in time needed someone to tell them where to go and because of life’s harsh weather they faced they settled for less. I am not saying that there are no intentional bad guys just as there are intentional bad girls. I am only saying that just the way you would see a girl who is a sex addict and quickly think that her past must be affecting her and she needs help, just the same way CARE for the boy child.
Don’t be too quick to condemn him and say to his face, “you are useless and nothing can become of you”. Remember only a heart that is whole can love, protect, provide, head and do all that is required of him by the society. So let’s speak up for the boy child today.
